    Debt Debate

So the gov will most likely shut tomorrow and the debt fight is coming up. The fed continues to print on roids and yet silver is doing nothing. I just dont get it but then again maybe I am not so bright.

    • Looks like all the Senate Dems just jumped off the cliff for little Obie. No dissenters on the vote. Guess they believe 2014 is a done-deal.

    • Govt. "shutdown" is a joke as essential services will continue to operate. Even those sent home will be paid -- it's just a another vacation to them! I get tired of constantly reading press reports describing the shutdown as "a debacle". This is the way our government is supposed to work when the ruling parting violates the Constitution by refusing to vote on a budget for five straight years. The Republican House submits budgets to the Senate for debate but Harry Reid continually blocks both the debating and voting process. Obama once submitted a budget and absolutely no one in the Senate voted for it!

I fear the Republicans are about to lose their much-earned title as the "stupid party" as we watch Democrats commit political suicide supporting Obama's extreme leftist agenda. Some libs are waking up and realizing we're not headed towards their beloved European model of socialism but towards something straight out of Chairman Mao's Little Red Book. There are a lot of Dems in the Senate who would be happy to delay Obamacare by a year and remove the Individual Mandate altogether, but Reid is not going to allow them to vote.

In a few months we'll be starting a new campaign season for the 2014 elections and a lot of Dems are feeling the pressure even now. Senate Republicans are trying to procedurally sandbag Reid so as to allow a vote. Of course the Repubs are going to lose and even if by some miracle they win, Obama will veto anything impacting his beloved Obamacare -- but that's the plan.

By November next year, everyone -- including many libs -- will be fed up with Obama & especially Obamacare -- and any Dem running for reelection is going to be in a world of hurt if he or she is on record as an Obamacare supporter. Dems are scared and too dumb to realize just how easily the could lose control of the Senate in 2014 and the White House in 2016. On he other hand, one shouldn't underestimate the total stupidity of the average American voter.

      • I do not think this debate is airing the real issues with respect to our debt and deficit spending. We now have so much debt and so little ability to service that debt that interest rates must be kept low even if artificaially. Seems like media focus on the federal level, but also needing attention is the local and personal debt. If interest rate were to double, and that is not unreasonable, home values would tumble and property tax revenues would tumble as well, both from decreased taxable value and non payments from folks who lose their ability to pay. Rising interest rates would increase debt service at all levels, not only hitting the federal government that has moved to shorter maturities to reduce the interest rate, but also variable rate home loans and short term credit for individuals. I believe we need not be thinking of reducing the deficit, but eliminating it in favor of a surplus to pay down the debt. The choices are very hard, but at least now we have choices. If we wait, the market is going to make the choices.

I believe the hard core republicans as they are characterized by the press are trying to start making the hard choices, but they are doing a miserable job getting their reasoning communicated. Democrats fighting to maintain status quo are not seeing the big picture or they see it but falsly believe they can over ride it. We will not have status quo in the near future, as we are bankrupt and need to face the fact.

Once enough people realize this, confidence in the government and its money will be eroded. Then we will see ancient money take its rightful place and we should see PM miners do well.

      • why do you think that? Obama won easily and the majority supports his health care cuz they all want FREE stuff from the government, the GOP looks like the evil empire here and that is so unfortunate, my hope is Obama care will be a disaster and hopefully open the field for the GOP candidate to compete against Hillary. I dont think she can be beat. And we are screwed.
