GT Advanced Technologies Inc. Message Board

  • 1) GT Advanced Technologies (NASDAQ: GTAT ) says it is releasing equipment this year that will allow for the mass production of cells comparable to SunPower's, and First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR
    2) down 70% for the year and ready for a technical bounce with 30% shares short 3) MIT Technology Review article, which pitched the company's sapphire technology as a promising up-and-coming alternative to Corning's (NYSE: GLW ) wildly popular Gorilla Glass.
    4) GTAT announced a memorandum of understanding with Powertec Energy, through which Powertec stated its intention to purchase polysilicon technology and equipment from GTAT in the second half of 2014.
    5) backlog sits around $851 million, including $491.1 million from the polysilicon segment, $8.3 million from photovoltaic products, and $351.6 million from sapphire.

    6) total market capitalization is still less than $400 million and with new developements GTAT could have a strong bounce
    7) furnace technologies. and sapphire furnaces

    8) Sixteen hedgies were bullish on GT in the fourth quarter, down from 18 in Q3, and shares have returned 28.7% since the start of 2013
    9) GTAT did announce this week that Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI ) has chosen GT Crystal Systems as the exclusive supplier of 24-square-inch sapphire scan windows for Motorola's new MP6000 multi-plane bioptic imagers (think barcode scanners at the grocery store). That's certainly a suitable place for GTAT's scratch-resistant sapphire to find a home
    10) GTAT's $320 million in cash and relatively manageable total debt of $259.6 million,
    11) The HiCz technology will be a big piece of the pie in 2013. Leaving the stock as a buy in the inbetween cycle state. Sales and PPS are down equal amounts.

    12) Some hope- Sapphire is expected to be about 55% of the projected $500 million to $600 million in revenue this year.
    13) The cover screen market is where management sees strong growth potential, because sapphire can offer greater strength and durability than current cover glass. Like solar, this is a huge market if it takes off, but it hasn't as of yet.
    14) guidance has the company making $0.25 to $0.45 per share in profit this year, and if it can do that and gain momentum, this stock is a great value.
    15) Domestic manufacturing is poised to once again become the investment driver of the world,
    16) acquired substantially all of the business of Thermal Technology - high temperature thermal and vacuum products used in the fabrication of advanced materials that are deployed across multiple industries including smartphones and touch screens, LED, medical devices, oil and gas and automotive to name a few. Thermal Technology has delivered over 3,000 products to customers in over 40 countries since it was founded 60 years ago.
    17) crystal growth technology based on the Kyropoulous (KY) growth method and edge defined film growth (EFG) technology for large surface area sapphire.
    18) acquired Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) technology, which allows dense ceramics to be obtained under uniform heating at relatively low temperatures and in short processing times. The SPS technology is expected to have a wide range of applications including with medical applications, sputtering targets, space applications and thermoelectric convertors for hybrid electric cars.
    19) rapidly diversifying portfolio that will, we believe, allow us to accelerate our entrance into new markets," said Tom Gutierrez, GT's president and CEO.
    20) GT Advanced also makes equipment to produce components for energy-efficient lighting and may be less exposed to the problems in the solar industry, said Theodore O’Neill, an analyst at Wunderlich Securities Inc.
    21) The company’s new HiCz technology is forecast to improve the efficiency of photovoltaic cells by up to 24%, all while based on current technologies and at hardly any increase in costs. That’s the sort of breakthrough the industry needs.
    22) More important, GT Advanced has responded to the glut in solar technology by expanding the company into other promising areas. Indeed, nearly half its business now comes from serving manufacturers in the burgeoning LED lighting industry. GT Advanced is ramping up production to provide parts for everything from electric cars to cell phones.
23)GT Advanced also makes equipment to produce components for energy-efficient lighting and may be less exposed to the problems in the solar industry, said Theodore O’Neill, an analyst at Wunderlich Securities Inc. 24) The company expects demand for sapphire wafers to increase as governments, most recently China, phase out incandescent light bulbs.
    25) “They have a backlog and have made money in the industry down turn. 26) Net asset and balance sheet growth YOY (very positive) 27) GT Advanced makes equipment to produce polysilicon, the raw material in solar cells, and furnaces to grow synthetic sapphires, which are used in light-emitting diodes. 28) This company has a float of 177.86M shares which translates into a market capitalization of merely ~$350M. Of the ~177M shares outstanding over 38M of them are sold short. 29) Buy the blood in the street as nobody wants solar (((( but BUFFET)))) Midwest Energy knows energy and don’t make mistakes.
    30) Chief Executive Officer Tom Gutierrez, said during a conference call with analysts. “We have a diversified model with multiple revenue streams from businesses that serve the solar, LED and industrial markets.”
