Crystalwise Technology, Crystal Applied Technology, Procrystal Technology and USI Optronics, four Taiwan-based sapphire wafer or ingot makers, will expand their production capacities, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.

The capacity expansion is in response to expected significant increases in demand for sapphire wafers mainly due to Apple's adoption of sapphire for making covers of iPhone 5s home keys, the paper said.
