wow. could someone pleeeeease fire the marketing director??

Reed's, Inc. (NYSE MKT: REED), maker of the top-selling sodas (provided you ignore the actual top selling natural sodas like hansons, etc....) in natural food stores nationwide, announced today that it was invited to sponsor the VANS US Open of Surfing, underway in Huntington Beach, California. Reed's Ginger Brew, Virgil's Root Beer, and Reed's Butterscotch Beer are featured in the Event VIP Skybox and Media Hospitality Pavilion, as well as the Surf & Skate Athlete pavilions....

    what? really?

i dont mean to be so critical, but it is like the keystone cops with soda. hence 25 years of losing money.

    1. they are not sponsoring the tournament, they are sponsoring placement in a couple places where the drinks are "featured". no one is meant to know what "featured" means. free drinks is probably it after paying a fee?

    2. hmm an athletic competition? kombucha? NO! BUTTERBEER!!! MR. POTTER!!! Where did you get that butterbrew from? Is that the Coke of butterbrews????????? well, mr. potter. as a top, professional surfer i enjoy butterbrews from reeds, mmmm. hmmm. let's sell childrens' soda. we can crush jones at their own game. you can imagine what butterblah sales are like.

    3. i have no argument with such sponsorships, but you have to promote the product broadly at the event and sample the hell out of it while selling it everywhere with signage. if that is too expensive, pick a different event which you can afford. apparently that concept was lost as they are giving soda to the athletes. gatoraid tried that failed miserably. hey! athlete, you want a sports drink or a butterbeer or a root beer? those fools at gatoraid never learn.

    • As long as there's one person running the co.. and calling the shots as he sees fit, then investors (and potential investors) will be subject to his whims and to the ramifications of the decisions he makes. So for those who continue to harangue about it, either sell your stock and move on or make an effort to change management......( oh and good luck with that!) Also, to the whiners out there who want everyone to know how smart they are by posting the same ole regurgitated #$%$ about Reeds, there is no 'Edward R. Murrow' award given out for reporting that those who think that 2 + 2 = 4 is the same as E = mc2. By the way, I've been a shareholder for a long, long time and due the fact that I hold what some might call a decent size position, have been on both ends of this never-ending roller coaster and am as frustrated as one could be. The CEO may never understand that the company he founded could very well turn a profit within a short period of time if the assistance and guidance he (the co.) so desperately needs was welcomed. In fact, I don't doubt that there have been several 'legitimate' attempts made to effect such changes. So the caveat here continues to be : "Buyer {of the stock} beware"..........

      Sentiment: Buy

    • You are a liter ary JOKE. The only complaint with me on this particular marketing angle is the face Reeds Company is taking glass to the BEACH. See a psychiatrist on your issues for us; won't you.

      • i am sure that glass bottles in the VIP tent is a major safety concern. but hey, wall street agrees with you. on the last four big marketing announcements the stock shot up - um, i mean dropped 5 cents. but, i am a joke. i have no insight at all. the stock has been performing so well, how can you criticize the company? (pssst. california, beach, athletes in perfect condition, bikinis, outdoor lifestyle... let's market butterbeer and soda, while leaving the kombucha out of it). let's all ignore the company's trend for several months of not mentioning kombucha in their tv ad, in the sponsorship, etc... let's do that.
