Albany Molecular Research Inc. has opened a new, 50,000-square-foot research and development center in Hyderabad, India. The $8 million building, located near the Albany, N.Y., drug discovery company's existing facilities in the ICICI Knowledge Park in Hyderabad, includes laboratories for conducting early stage research. AMRI expects to open additional scale-up laboratories later this year and next year. Those larger laboratories will be used to develop efficient methods to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediates.
During this first phase of expansion, the new research and development center will add approximately 100 employees to AMRI's operations in Hyderabad, where it currently has 35 scientists. Additionally, infrastructure has been added at the new site to allow a second facility to be added in the future, which would more than double employee headcount.
