After dropping Spurgoe, McDonalds is looking for a new egg supplier, Could Cal-Maine be on Mickey D's radar ? I am thinking MCD's will want to avoid any more bad publicity from this issue and may be looking for a supplier of cage-free oragnic egg producers. According to CALM's web-site they are one of the nation's largest. Could add a good bit to CALM's bottom line.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think McD buys fresh eggs. Think its all liquid and/or processed. CALM doesn’t do liquid. Some Companies shoot all their eggs into the breaker machine without regard to quality.
Also, McD is a margin squeezer and as mentioned …. CALM doesn’t need to play that game. McD and most other restaurants can’t afford cage free eggs and most consumers won’t pay extra for them. CALM’s organic egg production is a very small portion of their eggs produced. Most of their specialty eggs are EB, which may or may not be cage free.
Hen numbers in last report are up from last year but still ok. Egg prices are good, but not as good as I thought they might be at T-day. Was thinking they might be a good 15 to 20 cents higher.
