Actually Pandora is the most listened to in car radio and has the largest share of overall radio
All new cars with technology packages are rolling out with Pandora as a standard application and Pandora has a large listener base from these people. However, to get the true number of in car Pandora users you have to add in all of the people that stream Pandora through their car's bluetooth to their car radio. These users show up in the mobile numbers and when you add in the number of bluetooth streaming Pandora listeners, Pandora is the number one in car radio station in all major markets and overall nationally.
Pandora is also has the largest share of overall radio listeners in the US. Advertisers are just figuring out that Pandora also offers audio ads on its mobile radio. In talking to several ad agency people I confirmed that Pandora is the hottest thing in radio advertising right now because listeners don't change stations when ads come on (they are short and only one audio ad every 15 minutes) making this the most cost effective and engaging form of advertising currently available.
Idiots can run around yelling about Spotify, Microsoft (nice job on the Zune and Xbox is where everybody goes to listen to music), and Apple but Pandora has quietly and steadily built up the largest listener base in the history of radio and its user base is incredibly loyal. For national advertisers there has not been a way to reach this many listeners with audio ads since the pre-cable days when the three TV networks had similar massive audience share.
When you look at the number of discounted and free satellite radio accounts it become clear, upwards of 85% of new car buyers are dropping the free satelitte radio from their cars when the trial expires and are instead streaming Pandora through the in car ap or their mobile device.
Its clear pandora is beating the crap out of terestrial radio and satellite....
#$%$ Why is simple math not requirement for P longs? Ya' see jackass- The MORE hours of listening that P receives from it's "customers", the MORE MONEY P LOSES!!!!! Remember that whole "royalty per song" issue that your CEO has been whining about.......well it's killing you more every day. I love watching this internet titanic sink by the day.
So, what's to brag about here? P is simply continuing to play more music, for more people, who don't pay anything for it. GREAT WORK P!
I agree with some of what you say but I think both SIRI and P are good short term bets. Until internet gets to where it doesn't drop 3 or 4 times on my ride home from work (40 miles) I think SIRI is safe and the two shall co-exist.
Surely you have links to support this rhetoric? Yeah, I thought not.
"All new cars with technology packages are rolling out with Pandora as a standard application...add in all of the people that stream Pandora through their car's bluetooth to their car radio."
Um, that button on the dash for Pandora does NOTHING without the smartphone, a data plan, and 3G/4G service. Therefore the ONLY people listening to P in their cars are doing it via the data plan on their smartphone. The car does not connect to the internet.
