The more people I talk to, the more trouble I think Apple is in. The halo effect is largely gone...the immunity to pricing pressure is gone...and the threat and encroachment from the Android platform is HUGE. Instead of EVERYONE responding to Apple, Apple is now starting to respond to others...particularly Samsung.
The larger point is this. While the business models of Pandora and Spotify are not exactly cash cows, they ARE influence cows. They are a conduit to reach tens of millions of users that are potential customers for a number of different products and services. The BIGS are going to want that...and for $3-4 billion why not? Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Samsung...who else?
