    Inquiry to Pandora Longs

    Hi everyone,

Please don't take me as a basher or anything. I'm just respectfully curious to Pandora longs. I myself am long in Sirius XM and hold no position in Pandora.

How often do you use Pandora? Do you pay for it or use the free service? Ironically, as a SIRI investor, I do use and love Pandora's services. I use it at home on my desktop and on my tablet at the gym (it's a huge boost to my workout and thankfully they have WiFi there). I use the free services; I definitely wouldn't pay for it because I don't mind the ads every there and now.

Although I love Pandora's services, I respectfully am not a believer in them from an investment standpoint, but I'm curious as to the Pandora longs' usage of their services. Thanks everyone!!!

    • Pandora has WAY too much competition… and when Apple even sends out an invite to their iRadio announcement, Pandora will drop 15%. And Twitter music… doesn't use Pandora. Don't underestimate that product over the next year.

      Sentiment: Sell

    • I just recently established put positions in P because of the following... First off I like Pandora free services and have been using it for about 1.5 years.

      1. I recently got a message asking if I was still listening and that Pandora needs to pay for the songs. Reminded me of the associated Royalty fees.

      2. I recently got a message saying that I was reaching my monthly limit off free music for my mobile device (iphone). I am not interested in paying for this service.

As a result, I immediately went to the apps store while at the gym and about 1 minute later I was no kidding creating music channels on iheartradio. I ended up liking the music better, I thought that the songs were more relevant and so far (day 5 or so) there are no adds even in the free version.

I don't think that P will compete as well as it could with Sirius as people with limited data plans are not going to be inclined to stream music while driving.

I did some limited research on the companies and found that iheartradio has a music catalog of something like 11 million songs and Pandora had access to 90K. Having said that I dont know the date of the article or the accuracy. Not to mention other competitors such as Spotify...

Bottom line is that I don't use Pandora anymore and I don't really plan to, I that that people that had a similar experience this month will do the same thing. It wont be overnight but in my opinion this company is headed for a difficult road. When I did listen the only benefit to them was that I was part of the active user metric. They just lost that too so now what?

      Sentiment: Sell

    • Dropped Sirius 2 years ago, music channels are awful and sound quality as well. Congrats on your hold there as both stocks are at 52 week highs, I was one of the first xm subs in the country and stayed about a decade-just got bored with it. I find Pandora more tailored for me by me and cheaper at $4 a month.
