1/5th...I've been beat like a rented mule in the stock market. All I can tell you is that if you lose sleep over it, and you're too nervous to ride out the ups and downs, than playing the market is not your cup of tea. Not everyone has the "game" to roll at night. "Gentlemen prefer bonds ".
MHR is a torture ride. I know. I stomached the accounting fiasco and doubled down. I had been down that path with other companies I had confidence in and have been richly rewarded. One thing my multi-decades of investing has taught me is to 1) do your homework and stay well informed and 2) with that information don't be too easily swayed when things look bleak. With a stock like MHR, you really have to maintain a strong ability to remove the emotion and act rationally. Good luck, with experiences like this you will learn to be patient.
I have had some considerable setbacks of great magnitude recently with stocks that I picked, held and sold only to see them double, triple and quadruple. Despite that pain I have realized a huge financial gain, not as much as I could have but I made progress and have learned a lesson. I suggest employing the philosophy of a buy and hold strategy by sticking to one's original intentions and trying to avoid over thinking and meddling with one's portfolio.
Take a look at ION Geophysical Corporation, IO. I noticed it last night after it took a hit and saw a buy. I have held that stock two or three times. It is up on recovery today, but I think that it has some room to run and shares are low priced.
Good Luck and don't look back.
I am also in IO but down almost 50%. Hold it too long. Too deep in trouble to sell now. Hold on to them and maybe it will recover next year or so. Dead money for now unless a buyout happens. Lesson learned. Could go lower also, but just hoping for the best there.
sorry man... I hear you... it was hard yesterday. It sucked hard core. I had to quit looking but was confident about today and the future. I would have bailed as well if I wasn't in at a much lower basis. I have no idea why that happened yesterday.
