CLWR announces a hybrid WiMAX/Wi-Fi router that incorporates Wi-Fi technology to reach consumers. While CWLR is not the first carrier to offer a hybrid router, it does reinforce the industry's recognition of the overwhelming market success and ubiquity of the licensed exempt Wi-Fi technology, as well as the challenge for any carrier trying to become the dominant network-edge technology.
The success of Wi-Fi will be reinforced with similar products to be announced by Verizon and others. It could be LTE or WiMAX as backhaul, customers are more concerned with the user experience.
