Go to the CHL listing on Yahoo to see the article regarding the announcement that they plan to sell One Million LTE-A phones using their new Band 41 network. It hints that CHL will build its own phones because the OEMs, like AAPL, are too slow. It comes across like a negotiating ploy. Or, it may be a poke in the eye for Samsung (South Korea) or AAPL (USA) for nationalist reasons.
So, what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?... or the extremely remote connection to Clearwire? One million LTE phones within a country that has 1.104 billion mobile users estimated at the end of 2012 means that the penetration will be less than 0.1% of the total population.
Clearwire has no mobile phones, they do not have a WiMAX phone. They have NO PLANS to have their own LTE phone. Sprint has phones, Softbank has phones, Clearwire does not. But but but.. But China has 1 million LTE phones. OK. Let's saw the fairy godmother gifts Clearlywired with 0.1% penetration of LTE phones and network to use them on, poof, tomorrow. Despite plans to build a small network, CW achieves 0.1% of penetration of the population, poof! That could be 0.001 times 330 million people = 330,000 subscribers.
