    ILMN Price Cut

I would love to know where you get this information from as I deal with Doctors and research institutes every day and the fact of the matter is they won't use inferior products no matter what the cost. Probably an ego thing....

    • They did not lower their price. The lowered the list price in their catelog as it was so out of whack with actual pricing. 85% of their business is under contract pricing...shorts are gonna get fried again on this one...pile on though.

    • Do not kid yourself, scientits rarely call the shots these days.

I was at a biotech company that is run by "transplants" from GE and I can tell you they will stop at nothing to make their researchers cut costs. As such if using AFFX products gives good data but not necesarrily excellent data these business heads will frustrate R&D until they break em and buy the cheaper stuff.

Ever since shareholder value took center seat in science a lot of scientists have been losing more hair. Remember these business guys are the ones backdating options and stuff to line up their pockets. In fact shareholder value seems to mean management and the board's values for a limited time and not every other investors values.

I am glad the backdating of options will net a lot of them and hopefully soem scientists will rise to fill those niches. We just have to wait and see.

Once again there are fewer and fewer scientists with autonomy out there.
