Governor, U.S. Senator, all Religious groups call Supervalu unethical?

This article is pretty good, too:

    http://www.thesomervillenews.com/main.asp?SectionID=2&SubSectionID=2&ArticleID=4021

The grapevine says that there are some local Somerville and Cambridge leaders (business and political) who won't shop in the stores because of what Shaw's actions have done to the community. The stores offer mostly part-time positions for the working class in those cities and with their hours being cut back, many are no longer eligible for health benefits. The high-paying positions are for full-timer's, many of whom commute from the outer suburbs. Shaw's actually requires (or maybe that's done away with) that you have a car if you go full-time, that way, they can ship you out to more distant stores, if need be.

Cutting hours, not giving raises, and forcing your part-time workforce to seek medical coverage from the state is the most egregious form of Corporate Welfare going. Supervalu says that insurance coverage is too expensive and yet hands out bonus' to the executive staff? C'mon! Somebody is mistaken here. Employee wages being blamed for our financial woes? Again, clearly mistaken. Or a definite lack of understanding the real issues at hand:

    OUR PRICES ARE TOO HIGH.

MANY OF THE STORES ARE FILTHY (check the edges of the shelves and bottoms of the cases).

OUT OF CODE PRODUCTS ON SHELVES BECAUSE THERE'S NOT ENOUGH HANDS ON TO ROTATE AND PULL STUFF OUT OF INVENTORY

NOT ENOUGH STAFF TO COVER SHIFTS (but hey, we're saving money)

CLOSED DELI'S, SEAFOOD, MEAT, PRODUCE DEPARTMENTS (hours before the stores close)

2 CASHIERS ON DUTY AT 9 PM WITH LINES OF CUSTOMERS

I just shake my head. It's so sad that the company won't or can't see what's going on. Mr. Herkert says that if we buckle down and work extra hard, then we won't be sold. C'mon, the best thing that could happen is if we did get sold.
