What the shorts don't know is going to give them an atomic snuggy. Two of the best food distributors in the country are hdqrd in Minneapolis. Super-Valu and Nash Finch. With large discount chains like Wal-Mart, and Target entering the grocery business Super-Valu had to acquire Albertson's in order to expand beyond a regional company, or sell out like Winn-Dixie. Sure the debt load and timing was bad. But the debt load is serviceable and is being paid down incrementally. Super-Valu's distribution chain is second to only Wal-Mart. It is now fine tuning using the Wal-Mart model. Two of the nations biggest Banks support SVU and have hdqrs. in Mpls.(US BANK, snd Wells Fargo). I have been familiar with SVU since 1960. The company is a survivor and you bet against it at your own risk.
Tcook, I am not a market timer. I consider myself a value investor. There is definately alot of short interest. IMO these guys are also short termers, and have no care, or committment, to Super-Valu other than to manipulate. Every year SVU chips away at its debt, and in a low interest environment has no problems renogiating terms.
