They missed on a revenue number that was created for them by the analysts (they don't give guidance). There is no competition, but now the press is stating that they missed due to msft and xen (forbes)! That is the funniest damn thing I have ever read.
You should have heard the pain in the analysts voices when VMW execs told them 50% growth. They kept asking if they were just being "conservative". The execs are smart and not playing the game, which will make us all money long term.
Don't be the sucker who sold at the low. Just keep buying in small amounts and in 12 months you will laugh that VMW was trading at $60 or below.
VMware makes technology that allows a single computer to act like many "virtual" machines and run multiple operating systems and programs. It is the leading company in the virtualization market, but faces increasing competition from the likes of Oracle Corp (ORCL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) and Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research).
MSFT won't have a real competitive product until 6 months after their release of server 2008 (that is their time frame.
Oracle is givning away for free because no one is knocking on the door. Neither MSFT or Oracle have a proven product. They are both way behind the curve. Anyone out there know of a company with more than one server using the other products in production. At this time Chrysler is more competitve with Toyota then Oracle is with VMware.
