VMware products too expensive
I'm a shareholder but as an IT guy I've looked at VMware products several times. On my own systems and with a provider like rackspace. Could never cost justify it. IT is way too expensive by 5 to 10 fold IMHO. It still amazes me that so many big companies deploy it so I bought the shares a few years ago but wonder how much longer until other virtualization really takes them to the woodshed on pricing.
I read Microsoft Hyper-V already causing some pricing pressure for VMware. Maybe this is the turning point?
I'll hold as the selloff seems overdone but might sell back into strength as traders forget about today in a week or two.-
BTW for my application a couple years ago I was going to use VMware at Rackspace and it was cheaper for me to literally use separate actual physical servers than to virtualize instances on a single machine! We ended up just adding hardware with single OS on each box and dumped the whole VMware option due to the INCREASED cost for us

True. More important, comparable products are available free of cost. This is not a OS that people interact with. VMware layer can be replaced anytime by a free software.

You obviously don't work in IT. Some points:
-people don't want free, they want accountability, validation, support etc.. if they wanted free windows wouldn't exist and people would be using some open source linux variant like in North Korea.
-No comparable products are available for free
-People do interact with it
-You can't just replace the layer like a rug -
Hope you are not storing sensitive data on those servers!
