the point here is that VMW had a record quarter (and year!) while the GDP was negative. This company has shown over and over that it can perform better than any other company under various conditions.
They are now smartly making subtle changes while most companies are daydreaming.
When they say that they will grow 21%+ during the last 6 months of 2013, I BELIEVE THEM!
