I don't have the industry knowledge to argue the finer points of SMP over MPP, but I will make this observation. Clusters aren?t a new concept. GB has been singing their praises for years and yet, my son?s school computer remains unconnected. As a layman, I've often wonder why? I still believe utilizing that free computing power (it's not really free is it?) has more challenges then you have disclosed so far. Is Cray?s assessment correct? I don?t know, but they seem to believe it?s the case. I hope you appreciate that my vote goes with them over an anonymous but elegant cyber poster. It could be my mistake, but then it?s also my cash.
