    From the earnings report

"...During 2007's fourth quarter, a significant portion of Old Republic's indexed stock portfolio was sold at a gain. The proceeds were redirected to a more concentrated, select list of common stocks expected to provide greater long term total returns..."

It's smart of them to take the gain now when losses will completely offset any tax implications (I'm not an accountant, but that should be mostly true?). It seems like they believe there are better opportunities in individual stocks with the market upheaval right now.

    disclaimer: not a real millionaire
