    Ford Motor Co. have increased to 461 from

    Chuck Gray, chief engineer for hybrid and electric powertrains, commented in an interview that Ford patents associated to gasoline-electric systems have increased to 461, from just 30 a decade earlier, with more on the way. Ford previous month stated that the hybrid version of its overhauled Fusion will get 47 miles a gallon in city driving, 44 mpg highway. The latest Camry hybrid that went on sale previous year is rated at 43 mpg city and 39 mpg highway.

      COMMENTS. the software that regulates the EcoBoost engines is one thing with many patents just for it, for example, to avoid a pausing on acceleration said to happen with other tubo-boosted engines.

      I think software also regulates the special automatic transmission that is actually a manual. Software does the shifting so the human does not have to, and does it better than most humans would.

      There is also hybrid-like technology to be introduced to all the cars (uses braking energy from stopping). The patents tend to be high tech, I think.
