Any news on FORD on this FORD message board?

Just curious you know since this is the FORD message board. Earnings are due out Friday. Lots of articles out about the company both pro and con.

Anyway, my thoughts on the Friday closing price for FORD is $12.50 per share. Any other intelligent guesses?

    • That old cop favorite, Ford's Crown Vic was made, for several decades, at a Canadian plant that closed in Sept 2011. Q4 2011 and Q1 2012 were thus the first quarters with reduced or zero production of Ford's Crown Victoria?? Ditto for the smallish Ford Ranger pick-up truck made at an 86-year old plant in St. Paul, which closed in Dec 2011.

Since Police Depts stocked up ahead of time, the Crown Vic closing at first reduced Ford's sales by whatever 80,000 cars annually works out to on a blippy quarterly basis. But, dropping the obsolete factory produced a more profitable mix of sales than before. (Ford's margin has, in Q1 2012, risen to 7% of revenue, from 5-6% in earlier years, some figures courtesy of Xavier).

And now, after cops stocking up last year maybe cut into this year's sales, police may be back to buying again, but a different model, one made in Chicago, according to anarticle in Feb:
      http://autos.aol.com/article/ford-begins-taurus-and-explorer-police-interceptor-production/

60% of new Police Interceptors are for the higher mpg Ford Taurus Police Interceptor with AWD, while the remainder are for the Ford Explorer.

That article also says, "Ford currently dominates the police cruiser market with about 70% of sales"

STRIKE FEAR INTO FELONS. Another article quotes the results of a comparison test by the LA Police Dept. The article says about the Taurus Interceptor,
"To quote Bill Gubing, chief engineer for the Police Interceptors: “EcoBoost powertrain performance is optimized for closing speed and maximizing takedowns, thus preventing high-speed pursuits from even forming.” "

An announcement about the timing and number of added shifts at THREE different plants (including Chicago?) was made by poster raging_bull in a different thread. Some 400,000 cars will be added to production, more than enough to make up for the closed Crown Vic plant, (80K cars/yr) plus the closed Ranger plant in St Paul (55K small pick-ups per year, plant also obsolete).

      ABOUT THE RANGER:

      ABOUT THE CROWN VIC
      ======================
Said Ford about the 2011 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, "It’s the only known police pursuit sedan on the market tested to meet 75-mph rear crash tests":
      https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/2011fleetshowroom/2011-CrVicPoliceInt.asp

Even though some thought 24 mpg was inefficient, others liked the crash-resistance, the ability to be large enough to push a stalled vehicle off the road, and the ease of finding replacement parts.

      Said the CD Monitor,
"Crown Victorias hadn't been offered to the public since 2008, selling instead to fleet customers, such as police departments and taxi companies.

So what will America's police departments do?

Hoard the remaining Crown Vics, for one thing. Police forces from Austin, Texas, to Pittsburgh have reportedly been stockpiling the cars. They remain popular with police for their simplicity, heft, and safety."

Your brain is baked. Show me where Ford has had a Q loss for the past 5 quarters. Ford missed estimates in 2010Q4 and 2011Q4. They've met or beat estimates the past 3 of 4 quarters.

CSX got beat up on stellar numbers last week
        I think McDonalds did too.
LVS just posted big numbers and the stock was down.

It's almost a 100% lock that meet, beat or miss...the stock will trade down on Friday. Don't ignore history. You'll repeat it.

I'd be willing to wager it trades down off of any report.

    • Jack,
Obviously it all depends on earnings, they have continued to drop their forcast from 40 cents to 36 cents. I would think they dont want to show another quarterly loss, this would make 5 straight, it would also send the stock into the tank(under 10). Provided sales are very close to last year and meeting or slightly beating the 36 cents, I would say that should take us to the low 12s. Although the market has NOT been very kind to companies recently that have had ANY drop in sales or earnings.

    • Stock had been down about every day for 3 weeks and was due for a bounce. Earnings commentary seems pretty mixed at best. Expecting a good report but the stock has traded lousy before today. Been burned too many times so I don't make big bets ahead of earnings.

    • q-1 should be decent tax refunds- average age of used autos past 10 years- more mpg choices more dash tech choices 2011 leftovers
