On Friday (12/7/2012), GM launched a program that gives dealers the option to add as much as $2,000 in customer cash on 2012 and 2013 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras. That's atop the $1,000 in bonus cash GM already was offering on the trucks.
Some dealers plan to deploy the fresh incentives to put some eye-popping numbers in their ads. Green said her store is planning to advertise Silverado pickups at up to $11,000 off sticker price this month,
GM is also providing dealers with $250 certificates which can be used to help seal the deal. The number of certificates the dealers will receive depends on the number of new trucks in their inventory.
Here's an idea of how much GM has been stuffing the channel:
A friend of mine is in sales at the local GMC dealership. He said they should have an inventory of 80-90 new GMCs at any one time. Right now, they have ... hear it comes ... over 200 new GMCs on their lot.
