For a pickup truck that a lot of naysayers didn't give much of a chance, it's quite an achievement: Ford just built its 300,000th F-150 with an EcoBoost turbocharged engine, USA TODAY has learned.
To put that in perspective, Ford says that's enough trucks to stretch bumper-to-rugged-bumper for 1,080 miles from Detroit to the heart of truck country, Sulpher Springs, Texas.
Well, it's in the heart of the Lone Star State, about 92 miles shy of Dallas. Even though that destination might have a little more zing in dinner-party conversation, Ford figures it won't take much longer to get there. Only a couple more months of truck building should do the trick.
Ford introduced the EcoBoost engine to the F-150 a couple years ago with fingers firmly crossed. Truck fanciers almost always ordered V-8s, which can tow just about anything. Real cowboys wouldn't be caught dead with a V-6.
But by showing that the EcoBoost V-6 could perform as well as a V-8 with a lot of gas savings, Ford gradually won over truck owners -- 300,000 times.
THanks Fly. What would be cool is if my new F150 on order was the 300000! I pull heavy eq 4 to 6k lbs and really had to think long and hard about if I was going that way. Wife hates diesal smell and the only other option was the 5 L motor in the F150. I order F-150's XL reg cab HD Payload& tow PKGs 2 wheel drive, this will be my 3rd since 04. Only down side is F got rid of the doors on the reg. cab ): We will really miss that as it was so easy to keep all our work #$%$ back there. Still there is more room there than the other trucks just a PITA to get back there. By the way full price on this truck was 26200 tax title included.
