They want to know why these trucks run forever with so little maintenance, while their new trucks are lucky to go 100k miles without an engine and trans rebuild. i have 3 of the 77-79 460, C6 , 9 inch variety. i bought one 79 1/2 ton, long box work truck from the original owner with 49k original miles and it now has 185k miles on it. i paid 3200 bucks for it and other than a couple of brake jobs and new Michelin tires, that 460, C6 trans and 9 inch rear end have operated flawlessly. This one runs down the freeway, idling at 65 mph with a heavy load. i picked up the 77 recently for the same 3200 dollar price and that one also is a low mileage (65k original) and is in near MINT condition. It's much too nice to go to work. They don't make them like they used to and they don't want to. How do you make money selling trucks that run forever??
my c series work truck on the FARM is under shelter and I STILL USE it to move sand, haul trash and move firewood. As long as you are able to find brake parts/change oil it will run forever 500k miles and been painted 14 times.. more paint jobs then engine over hauls..1 engine overhail 2 trannies.. THERE ARE SOME FIRE ENGINES STILL OUT THERE USING FORD C SERIES TRUCKS.. they stopped making them in 1990 they are both gas and diesel.
