Famous Dave's of America Inc. Message Board

    Business is booming at MOA

I have no illusions about being able to address the future of this business. Tonight, however, I had to wait 70 minutes for a table at the Mall of America. And the platters were excellent. We all know that Dave's is not Manny's. But for the moderate price Dave delivers above average ribs and generally reliable fixings.

As I said I have no illusions about being able to understand or interpret the future of this company. But I understand a little bit about chain commerce and how margins, expansion, quality and repeat business drive the chariot. Tonight these guys were raking it in. When I came back to claim the table about an hour later the line at the takeout window was at least 10-12 deep.

As a reasonably experienced consumer I was impressed by the way the front staff handled the volume. Nobody dropped the ball. When we left after an hour or so the place was still packed.

    • No disrespect but you probably should balance your observations with a visit to the restaurant on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

Hey, I'm a customer and a stockholder but its still really tough out there in retail and casual dining.

It may take a year or more before a restaurant like Dave's gets the wind at their back, like in the illusion you saw on Saturday. In the meantime, management will be tested and retested.

I'm not a whiner, just a customer who goes to Dave's about every other week and a stockholder who is about even. Not complaining but really waiting for a better wind to blow in.
