TransCanada's initial application said just 6000 job years across both countries. Of course that was before Koch and his hired thugs in Washington all started to panic too?
Those duty-free TX refineries are running at close to one hundred percent capacity right now, nobody is going to refine the tar gunk if they can get West Texas Intermediate or later on Brazilian deepwater crude at close to the same price.
If anything bringing the Cushing, OK bitumen glut on down to Houston would be much more likely to KILL Eagle Ford oilfield production jobs in Texas by the thousands.
Look at how quickly that same situation just developed in natural gas?
____________________________________________________ First, the myth of jobs. A few months ago, Fox News was claiming the pipeline would create 250,000 new jobs. Sounds good – except those numbers were based on a single study that has been widely discredited. According to the Cornell Labor Institute, the real number of permanent jobs created by the pipeline is likely to be about ... 50. If you factor in the environmental damages and higher oil prices the pipeline will cause, the project might even lead to a net loss of jobs
for what a year while it is constructed? To repair it when it leaks? To clean up spills? Why not use the super tankers from Saudi Arabia instead then we can spill it in the oceans of Canada or another Vadezez disater.
There are the construction jobs and then the maintenance jobs. The long term jobs are probably in the refining of the product. There are those in Canada including unions that want to do all the upgrading and refining of the bitumen there. Of course the value added step of upgrading bitumen to synthetic crude, and then from that to refined product employs a lot of people. It could be oil sands product gets shipped to the west coast by all Canadian pipeline and then by ship to wherever. The other option is Alberta Canada upgrades and refines the bitumen and just ships the finished refined product, keeping all those jobs.
What a rediculous comment, oilmetinman,go sit under your windmill and figure out how you are going to really power America. Need more tax payer money to fund your "green Jobs" that don't make money? All these people are just stupid but you are so smart. Figure out how to crush-up clover and pour some water with it and pour it in your gas tank and drive 500 miles then, you can become the next billionare. Until then, oil and gas drilling and pipelines get our energy needs met.
