Keystone XL to Create Over 50,300 Person Years of Employment in Texas

There are the construction jobs and then the maintenance jobs. The long term jobs are probably in the refining of the product. There are those in Canada including unions that want to do all the upgrading and refining of the bitumen there. Of course the value added step of upgrading bitumen to synthetic crude, and then from that to refined product employs a lot of people. It could be oil sands product gets shipped to the west coast by all Canadian pipeline and then by ship to wherever. The other option is Alberta Canada upgrades and refines the bitumen and just ships the finished refined product, keeping all those jobs.

    • No such ships exist today. Anywhere on the face of the earth.

As of right now unrefined Tar Gunk has never been shipped over water on anything bigger than a common river barge.
If you fill up a regular oil tanker with bitumen, then it sinks faster than a George Bust synthetic housing boom.

At that point your option is to run with the tanks half full of the much more dense tar gunk across the raging North Pacific. (The only problems now are that somebody is paying to haul SAND laced with Benzene 7000 miles across the open ocean and that it already cost $35 a barrel just to get the unrefined product down to the coast before that!)

Fortunately it's as hard as a hockey puck when still undiluted at room temperature so it really shouldn't slosh around all that much in those 80 foot waves in mid-winter? Naturally the people who would have to pump that toxic sludge on and off of the ships that don't exist yet aren't too thrilled about the prospect either.

Most relevant, there is a serious shortage of inbred, low attention span Fox News Morons in ultra-green British Columbia to approve of that Western Gateway pipeline route too....like Pat Buchannan said just last Friday, the Canadians are clearly BLUFFING on the western pipeline option.

And they quite obviously lack the BALLS to charge Koch more than a one percent royalty at the source too. The rest of the world gets fifteen percent. Show me a conservative blowhard and I'll show you a HUGE
"gubmint" subsidy just like that one every single time!
