    US trade deficit

Jr. released the trade figures that "the deficit with China hit an all-time high as did America's deficits with Japan, Europe, OPEC, Canada, Mexico and South and Central America."

Kind of interesting in this list is that OPEC is the main cost driver yet hidden in the middle of the list.

There is also a speculation that "The rising trade deficits must be financed by increased borrowing from foreigners, who so far have been happy to sell us their products and hold U.S. dollars in payment which they invest in U.S. stock, bonds and other assets. The concern is that at some point foreigners will want to reduce their dollar holdings. If the change occurs at a rapid pace it could send the value of the dollar, U.S. stocks and bond prices all plunging."

In reality, a lot of the $ goes to the pockets of Republicans whose companies export jobs.

Also an interesting thought is that Pentagon identifies China as our #1 enemy. Will China attack her #1 customer?

    • <<Th government has no idea how to build or run a refinery.>>

There's a toady on every corner that contributed 20$$ to the RNC that's qualified to hire consultants. Remember Gen Myer's niece or daughter whatever she is, Supreme Court nominee Harriet, Micheal Browne, the guy they named to the Fed Board today?

    • "Those cheneyheads are rich for a reason."

YES...because they bring to your neighborhood corner a product that your whole life-style, and possibly survival, depends on.

they FORM A MONOPOLY TO bring to your neighborhood corner a product that your whole life-style, and possibly survival, depends on.

Th government has no idea how to build or run a refinery. Most emmissions come from start ups, shutdowns or emergencys. The more redundant you make the processes the higher the cost of fuel prices to the consumer.
The ideal refinery is started up and run continuously for 3 years before a major shutdown and rework is necessary.
When local governments interfers with that process costs go up as do emmisions.

    • >>there's an adequate amount of engineering available to the oil companies to build a clean refinery. They just have to come up with the funding to do it right.

The new refinery also needs a little more, a source of oil. A small company bought the CVX refinery in Bakesfield, but is in trouble as it has problem finding oil to refine. Those cheneyheads are rich for a reason.

    • Hey bonehead, there's an adequate amount of engineering available to the oil companies to build a clean refinery. They just have to come up with the funding to do it right. The plans will have to be submitted to govt agencies, no one with half a brain would/could expect a project like that to get a pass.

You continue to demonstrate your ignorance.
Big Oil can't build a refinery unless numerous government offices ok the design, prints, equipment ad nauseum.

    • I always get a chuckle out of the hand wringing over the "trade deficit". Lets get basic, and understand at the real goods and services level what a trade deficit really means.

It means that foreigners are willing to send us more REAL stuff than we have to send them!

      Sounds like a good deal.
