    • I feel his pain.....

    • re: "he be a true Leftist, and still complain about paying his property tax?"

True Story: my father-in-law (years ago now) bought several acres of rural land, with an old ramshackle house, in a strong, rural, republican state at that. He decided to build a chicken coop, have his kids take care of the chickens, learn a little in the process, and collect a few eggs...

With the added structure, his property tax was re-assessed, effectively wiping out any possible monetary gain. The kids (sort of free labor) didn't like the chicken work much, hens died, stopped laying, and so on, so he butchered the chickens to eat. And he tore the chicken coop down.

The next year his property tax goes up even more...he goes to the town clerk to ask why... answer: tearing down that ugly chicken coop greatly enhanced the property value.

    • Sometimes I am not sure about sisu911sc...can he be a true Leftist, and still complain about paying his property tax?

Maybe he is just of the Leftist school that only wants to "tax the guy behind the tree".

    • "Numbers alone will never justify Clinton's service to this country. Why he actually "felt our pain"."

Wait a minute...what pain...according to our liberal friends here, the Clinton years were paradise...did they miss something that Bill saw?

    • Re: "The progressive income tax, the estate tax, the double taxation of capital, and confiscatory property taxes are their weapons..."

Progressive: Forbes proposed a flat tax rate...no serious republican ever got behind it, and won't.

Estate Tax: it's going away (or mostly gone away) isn't it?

Double Taxation: that's how revenues are increased by lowering tax rates...it churns the coin of the realm.

Property Tax: just another way to grab my money.

    • Look, lets try to be reasonable here. Will you agree that for any tax payer segment you wish to look at, that their taxes under the current law will be less than they would have been under the law before the tax cuts, for the vast majority of people at all income levels?

If you don't believe this, you have just not run the numbers. If you know this to be true, then your arguments are just trying to cloud the facts....a standard politcal ploy.

    • Numbers alone will never justify Clinton's service to this country. Why he actually "felt our pain".

    • My God, I haven't seen anyone dust off M1/M2 in years. Can there really be such a things a Leftist monetarist?

Actually though, the "cheneyhead" era is comparitively mild for money growth, IF you are willing to actually look at the data.

    • re: "For instance, lets keep a couple items fixed, like filing as married(jointly) and a taxable income of $30K."

Of course this is all correct IF the "taxable income" and the "gross income" were essentially the same, but, for example, by giving larger exemptions to the rich, or famous, or farmer, or oil company, or what ever,... tax rates are just part of the equation...the "taxable income" computation can either lower your taxes (excemptions/deductions go up) or raise your taxes (loss of deduction).

    • Everyone must understand the true liberal's concept of taxes, and their purpose. Above all, they veiw taxes a way of leveling the economic status of everyone. They basically support the idea that anyone making a higher income than anyone else, must be doing it because they are either lucky, advantaged by birth, crooked, greedy, or exploiting the less fortunate.

Anyone earning below the "equal" point must be disadvantaged by birth, discriminated against, unlucky, or just in need of a little extra help.

Therefore, they see the role of government and taxes as "fixing" these evils. The progressive income tax, the estate tax, the double taxation of capital, and confiscatory property taxes are their weapons.

In their ideal world, eveyone would have the same amount leftover AFTER they paid their taxes.
