Thanks on the 4th of July

Last night I was watching the History Channel's series on the American Revolution. As I thought about those times, compared to today, I realized how thankful I am for the bravery and sacrifices made our Founding Fathers. I have been lucky enough to live a long life in the freedom they created.

Would it be, that we could find such men today.

    • You thought? doubt it. Show me where I ever said he was a muslim. Show me where I ever said I was a teabagger. I may teabag Martha sometime.

I know you told us NOC was unchanged for 10 years or so but then as someone pointed out, there was a split you ignored. :) What a dope.

    • Sqzr - The founding fathers pledged their fortunes, their lives and their good names to the success of the new nation they helped found,
The bunch that inherited the nation in the past 30 or so years are looking for a free ride.
They have instead, pledged away the legacy of the common good of the middle class and have instead are pledged to the sole success of corporations and the stockholders.
They claim to be overtaxed but can make no claim to being under-represented.
When America was taxed at confiscatory rates prior to 1981, the country soared with eagles but today we barely break ground with turkeys.
Europeans wanted to come here to share in the American dream.
      Now, who do we attract?
It's pretty much limited to 3rd worlders.
Corporate welfare is doled out to the least needy of businesses while the unemployed are denied benefit extensions, kids go to bed hungry, single mothers needs are ignored and the sick don't get the medical attention they need.
A company like BP is allowed and encouraged to not install safety devices in the name of profit but if you drop a crankcase full of used motor oil on the ground the full wrath of the govt will make you pay the piper.
GE, IBM and other electronic companies killed all life in the Hudson, the Connecticut, the Charles and other rivers of the northeast.
Polluters allowed for Lake Erie to catch on fire back in last century.
Grumman, Republic, Brookhaven Labs and the Plum Island scientists and other companies killed off the fishing and clamming industries in the Great South Bay and in the Peconic River on Long Island.
I would offer up that the founding fathers wouldn't recogize what america has evolved into.
The political right has long claimed government cannot and does not create jobs but NASA employed a lot of people, thousands of good paying jobs with benefits, in the Space program over the past 45 -50 years and to a man today, they are complaining because their welfare program is coming to an end.
It's time to put things into perspective and spend some monies where it's most needed, on the working and midddle class.
