    Do China eat Apple?

Google: We have stolen ON2 from its shareholders. They have made a lot of deals in China but "never" "executed" them. What about talking about MOBILE instead of search engine in PCs?

China: What about ON2 deals? We stole their Video codecs SW in 2003/2004 too and they sued us in the international court. We thought DAM will never let the world know we were using ON2 codecs but NOT only he did it he also took us to the court.

Google: MF took care of him. DAM is no longer in charge. MF even screwed and forced Joll out because he talked about ON2 TrueMobile trials in ten or more Chinese cities in 2007.

China: Now we have our own AVS and we kind of think it's chinese made but Gao, secretary general of the AVS Working Group, say not all of them are Chines

Google: ON2 had some deals with Netcom and Gao was Principal Scientist of China Netcom. Actually, ON2 has made deals with China Unicom, China Mobile and one or more Chinese operators

China: How could we call AVS as "homemade" if it is using some of ON2's Stolen video codec VPx SW?

Google: What if we claim VP6 and VP7 as "open-source" and you call AVS as homemade but we are asking for a little favour from you?

    China: What is that?

    Google: Do you eat apple?

    ...

    -------------------------------

    Plus VP7:

Waiting for Google to "execute" the "operation and "collect" the money???

    ---1) Wen Gao:
----Some of the experts suggested that China develop a standard independent of all foreign technologies, but it became clear that this was not practical.

---2) China Netcom----->>-----Gao Wen, Principal Scientist of China Netcom.

---3) China Standard AVS->>---Gao Wen, secretary general of the AVS Working Group.

---4) On2 Technologies licenses technology to CNC International for satellite and Internet broadcasting

---5) Finland's Hantro, which makes video technology for handsets, has struck a deal with ... Vimicro, one of China's fabless chip companies, to develop chips for mobile phones based on China's home-grown audio video coding (AVS) standard.

    • The Long Case For Nokia: Banking On Emerging Markets
April 3, 2012 by: Dutch Trader

China Telecom, which is built on a CDMA network, is the third-largest carrier in the country. As of February, it said it had 132.33 million subscribers, with 41.15 million of them on 3G.

As of January, there were 136.6 million 3G subscribers in the country, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Rival carrier China Unicom (CHU) believes that number could double this year. Others have predicted that this year, China will overtake the U.S. as the world's largest smartphone market.

According to data from Enfodesk, China's mobile phone users reached 986 million in 2011, an increase of 14.81%, while 3G subscribers reached 128 million. The mobile phone penetration rate is over 70%. However, the 3G penetration rate only reached 13%. The popularity of smartphones and mobile internet applications in China will greatly push 2G users to switch to 3G. Enfodesk expects that the 3G user group will rapidly increase to more than 300 million users.

In two-way video instant messaging, for example, we have relationships with Skype, AOL, and Tencent QQ Messenger in China. We provide the video capabilities in all these. The third trend in video is mobile video. We are in trials with CTTNet in China for China Mobile's offering in mobile video that uses VP7 technology. So, from a company perspective, they are both important from a growth and market opportunity perspective.

BILL JOLL - ON2 TECHNOLOGIES, INC. (ONC)

TWST: Would you give us a brief historical sketch of the company and a picture of the things you're doing at the present time?
Mr. Joll: On2 Technologies has been in the digital media business for 12 years. We are publicly traded on AMEX. We focus on video compression technologies and solutions thereof. We are strongly positioned in two broad categories with our current generation technology. One is our VP6 format or compression scheme, which is the technology empowering the Flash video phenomena today; it is the technology in Flash video. Then we have a higher compression technology, called VP7, which was designed specifically for mobile video, VoIP and video conferencing, security, and a large number of other such applications. This is the technology currently used by Skype and AOL for their video messaging applications, and by others for mobile to two-way instant messaging platforms in various devices.
TWST: Which of these is more important to you at this time?
Mr. Joll: They are both important because they both address burgeoning markets that require our technical capabilities. We are seeing VP6 based Flash video take off tremendously on the Internet. If you look at what's happening with social networking sites and user generated content, it is almost entirely driven in Flash video. That is the video community phenomenon. The other video driven trend is video communication, for which we developed VP7, with higher compression and real time capabilities.

      • Apple may be planning to sue Google over WebM video project, VP8 codec
        Thursday, May 20, 2010 - 12:17 PM EDT

Yarow reports, "Those patents are important. Steve Jobs has hinted he will be doing all he can to protect them. In an email to Hugo Roy of the Free Software Foundation, Steve Jobs wrote (our emphasis added): All video codecs are covered by patents. A patent pool is being assembled to go after Theora and other "open source" codecs now. Unfortunately, just because something is open source, it doesn't mean or guarantee that it doesn't infringe on others patents. An open standard is different from being royalty free or open source."

"We don't know, but we suspect that Steve Jobs knew Google was planning on open sourcing its video format when he wrote this. While he specifically mentions Ogg Theora, he also mentions 'other 'open source' codecs,' suggesting that Apple could be mulling plans to sue Google over the VP8 codec format," Yarow reports. "This wouldn't be Apple's first patent lawsuit aimed at Google. Let's not forget it's also suing HTC, a big Android customer."
