Merck is best fit IMO. New motto is "Be Well" and is centered around prevention and wellness. They for one have said they want to expand into medical devices like JNJ and others but they have a national derm sales force currently that promotes propecia and coppertone suntan products. Great way co-market the OTC suntan lotions.
Glaxo is in similar situation having a national sales force set-up already and the connection with charles stiefel.
This would make total sense for MelaFind, a company like Merck etc. can retain key people (Mela has 48 employees) but leverage the global marketing, sales, and regulatory experience to speed the implementation up a bit including reimbursement. Plus these companies are dying to launch new products, especially innovative ones like MelaFind!
This has taken MELA 12 years and 100 million at this point. A billion dollars seems very reasonable for a product with no competition in sight and residual revenue model!!! With HC reform being focused on prevention and amount of patients entering the system in the next few years, this is a homerun.
