Physicians Oath,First "Do No Harm" and this applies to ordering a biopsy with-out using all available testing measures for skin cancer.I know because my wife was subjected to a skin biopsy and got an infection on her forehead and was in plenty of pain as the numbing injection to her forehead wore off.Our insurance company paid $1,546 for this procedure and the results came back Negative. What a waste of time and money and pain and an infection. Now that Melafind has been approved if a dermatologist don't have this new technology any patient should find another physician at once because he has violated his Oath if he subjects you to a Biopsy with just his vision.
But since insurance pays, doctors don't care. It's not their money.
Look at it from a doctor's point of view. Do I want to recommend patients for a biopsy that costs me nothing but patient $1.5K which is paid partially by insurance, or do I want to risk it by NOT ordering a biopsy and therefore may get sued in the future?
I think the choice is pretty obviously. Don't blame the technology or the doctor, blame it on the lawyers.
