Our local Delaware chain Happy Harry's had great service, prices and clean stores. After WAG's takeover and rebranding, the stores are cluttered, dirty and the service is terrible. They even removed the free blood pressure monitoring machines. What really surprises me is the same clerks and pharmacists who now are grumpy delivering poor service were friendly and gave great service at Happy Harry's. Today I called WAG for a refill of a prescription I had yet to transfer to Rite Aid. Long story short, I've made 2 trips to the store and waited in line for a total of 25 minutes due to their SNAFUs only to have to return Tuesday to hopefully finally pick it up. Customers in front of me were complaining about the wait and service. I guess WAG figures it deserves extra money from ExpressScripts (not my PBM) for the all the aggravation they cause their customers. WAG also had a pricing dispute in Delaware for Medicaid reimbursement.
Maybe WAG is a great stock to own but they provide a miserable customer experience.
For the record, Alan Levin owner and son of founder Harry Levin said at the time of sale the scale and buying power of being part of WAG would lead to better service and prices. That didn't happen. I believe the local scuttlebutt that when his father died, he had political ambitions and little interest in the business. When WAG came shopping the story is he was 'Happy' to take the money, Nothing wrong with that. He currently is Economic Development Director in DE and there is talk of him running for governor.
