Walgreen Co. Message Board

    BEARISH ON STOCK PRICE

walgreens is not as invincible as some on the
board would lead yu to believe. The drugstore industry
is extremely saturated and will continue to get more
competitve. Kmart, walmart, dominicks, and others continue to
put pharmacies within their stores. Yes, walgreen
bulls will say that their technology and service is
better than the others. I will say that some consumers
like myself want a one-stop shop for their goods at an
affordable price. Walgreens meets neither of these
requirements. On a brighter note, wag's balance sheet is
immaculate and their earnings are consistent. The aging of
baby-boomers has already been factored into this stock. The
bottom line is the drugstore chains future earnings
growth and profit margins are not deserving of present
    price earnings multiples.

    • ... profile was just modified?

    • The fact that 100-1000 people on average will
retire each day for the next 20 years has already been
      factored into this stock?

      Has the number of drugs,
which will most likely increase, that are available by
prescription only been factored into this stock?

      I
really don't think so, especially since that are still
areas where Walgreen's doesn't reach in the US.
Walgreen's going to Japan and China, best time to go there
is now right? Has this been factored into the
      stock?

I give you one point, future earnings growth is
what drives big institutional investors to purchase
shares in Walgreens. But you guys in the stock market
are driven by psychological factors more so than real
economic indicators. Get off that high
      chair...

Walgreen's is a rock...it'll take someone big to knock it
down, and the industry is consolidating, not becoming
more competitive...ie, purchase of genovese by some
      other chain...
