    otis...i can tell you what the frenzy is..

    the frenzy is created by what is called "flash trading", computer-driven buys and sells that create a "spectroscopy effect" in fast markets, with the consequence being that the slower retail trader has a very small chance of getting the right fill and making the right short-term trade.

    Honestly, I'd bet that for every hundred thousand institutionally owned shares that are changing hands between long-term holders, approximately 5 times that many shares are "flash-trading".

    Just a guess....and BTW I think hedge funds are pretty heavily involved in this type of trading...
