Mei Ah Allies with CMHK in Advanced Entertainment Service
BEIJING, Dec 20, 2012 (Menafn - SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) --Mei Ah Digital Technology Ltd., a subsidiary under Mei Ah Entertainment Group Limited (sehk:0391), has allied with China Mobile Hong Kong Co., Ltd (CMHK) in providing Hong Kong mobile phone users with advanced entertainment experience by adopting DivX Plus Streaming technology.
The news was announced by digital entertainment innovation company Rovi Corporation ROVI on December 19.
By adopting CMHK's UTV application program, 4G LTE and 3G service users could watch live TV programs and look back on VOD (video on demand) programs via Android system-based tablet PC and mobile phone. DivX Plus Streaming, a self-adaptive stream broadcasting technology developed by Rovi, is adopted in the VOD service of films and TV programs, which could provide incomparable visual effect and advanced multimedia service. This is the first time for the technology to be applied in 4G LTE network globally.
Characterized by high performance in video playing, high definition and advanced multi-screen interoperability, DivX technology has won the acknowledgement of tens of millions of global consumers. Currently, more than 750 million sets of DivX devices are spreading all over the world, covering Blue-ray player, HD TV, game console and smartphone. Movies adopting DivX technology could be easily stored in CD, USB flash disk and SD memory card, or played on DivX-authorized devices via DLNA household network.
How will Rovi monetize DivX, will they take a small cut each time someone uses rents a movie? Will they get a flat fee? For instance I know they provide metadata for Pandora, how do they make money on this?
