Rosetta Stone, Inc. Message Board

    Sutekina "Rosetta Stone"!

I'm new to this board and currently watching RST activity.

About a year ago, I decided to learn Japanese from scratch, without any real exposure or fundamental knowledge to its grammar. "Rosetta Stone" is one of the first tools/products that I bought.

I don't intend for this to sound like a commercial but the Stone is a very useful tool -for those who lack familiarity with the product, their method is associative with repetition: vocabulary and phrases attached to images. Correct answers are selected from among four corresponding images. Drills are similar to playing 'Concentration'.

On the Japanese ROM, there are a number of selections to attach to the lesson work: Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji/Kana mix.

The 'Voice print' feature is extremely helpful for training in correctpronunciation as Japanese is more of a 'flat' language -lacking Western accent on syllables and the 'high' and 'low' attribute common to Western speech patterns.

As a regular user of this product, Rosetta Stone is an excellent tool to SUPPLEMENT textbook used with conventional classroom and self-study methods. A textbook IS necessary as this product is NOT a fast track to fluency for any language.

Thanks to an ever increasing interest in Asian languages (particularly Japanese and Mandarin) among military, government, business people, universities and their students -Rosetta Stone should enjoy consistent sales of its products and increase in PPS.
