Anadarko Petroleum Corporation Message Board

    Hurricane Katrina

Looking like it will take out the city of New Orleans.

Other than Marco Polo and the new deep water projects, anyone know how much production APC has left in the Gulf that might be affected?
Anyone know where the Marco Polo platform production comes ashore?

    • canadian,

I hope you are an experienced option trader. Cause then you know the volatility of the Sept call will skyrocket and it will be very hard to make money going long. You will have to be extrememly nimble because the volatility "Crush"and theta decay as it approaches expiration will desiminate the value.

      Forewarned is forearmed.

    • CNR,

and go there and read proshop's recent posts, scary....

    • What company/message board are you quoting from?

Looks like they waited too long before evac. All three of my brothers are just getting in from offshore and they all said the rigs weren't secured because they didn't get the evac. orders soon enough. All they had time to do was get the hell out of dodge. It's going to be a MESS and $90 is my guess to where it settles.

    • Not really very easy to assess the impact on any company other than those where they are the named operator of the property. They are non-operating partners with their peers on many other offshore producing facilities and unless you are really in the know about your company,it is futile to even guess until they give out the information.Good luck.

    • Looking bad. Article from this (Sat) morning:

Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC - News) began pulling everyone off its Marco Polo platform in the deepwater south of New Orleans, spokeswoman Teresa Wong said. The field was to be shut by sundown, stopping production of around 16,000 bpd of oil equivalent according to recent estimates. (Source: http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/050827/energy_katrina.html?.v=1)

I also returned to that storm impact website, and it's been updated to indicate that APC's gulf operations will be totally shut down for a period of time. They indicate a total shortfall of 80K bbls oil and 0.2 mmcf of NG. Doesn't sound like a huge amount to me.

[BTW, the message with the link was deleted. Here it is again with ** for tt: h**p://hurricane.methaz.org/hurapak/AAL122005_gomex_oil.html]

Measured against APC's 428,000 BOE/day, it looks like the loss of less than one day's production, hardly enough to break the bank. If the stock drops this week on the news it might be a short-term trading opportunity.(Tite - 4-6 more trades next week? LOL)
