Apple should use OCZ Vertex 3 for 2011 MacBook Pro
16MM Mac's are sold annually (this is guesstimation/extrapolation).
What if Apple were to move to a hybrid storage design (SSD + HDD) like their iMac's but use OCZ drives?
If they used the 120Gb Vertex 3, the MSRP is $300. Since they'd be signing a deal to do large volume, their margins would be compressed significantly. Let's assume the profit margin is knocked down to just 15%, which is half of what they are modeling for long-term growth. Their profit would be $45 for each unit sold!
If OCZ was the main supplier of the 'boot drive,' that's $720MM in profit annually!
Obviously, this is just for fun, but it just goes to show you the upside potential of OCZ. I expect that they will secure some sort of deal like the one described above, but it won't be for the whole line. Still, if they got 20% of that kind of business that'd triple the stock instantly.
