    Institutional buying

What would be the events that would trigger institutional buying at this point?

I know an investment from a 3rd party (eg WDC) or a significant OEM deal would, but looking for other ideas.

    • With only 2 days left for institutions to file their Form 13Fs for the period ending 12/31/2012, 75 funds have now disclosed their positions in OCZ.

      The selling has accelerated.

44 of the institutions sold to reduced their holding, with 21 of them selling their entire positions.

9 institutions made no change in their positions.

22 institutions increased their holdings with 6 opening new positions.

More than 5X as many shares were sold vs shares bought (e.g. 7,483,130 shares sold and 1,459,605 shares bought)

Despite several of the forum pumpkins claiming that Blackrock increased their exposure in OCZ, the truth is that they reduced their holding.

BLACKROCK ADVISORS LLC: Now holds 41,187 shares after buying 6,838 shares.

BLACKROCK FUND ADVISORS: Now holds 1,529,725 after selling 122,049 shares.

BLACKROCK INC: Now holds 1,441 shares after making no change.

BLACKROCK INSTITUTIONAL TRUST: Now holds 1,861,708 shares after selling 14,416 shares.

BLACKROCK INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT: Now holds 229,430 shares after selling 12,727.

BLACKROCK JAPAN : Now holds 0 shares after selling all it's 1,400 shares.

    • Institutions have been exiting OCZ.

For the period ending 9/30/12, of the 97 funds that filed Form 13Fs, 75 funds (e.g. 77%) .reduced or sold their positions.

Specifically, 45 funds closed out their entire positions, with 30 reducing their positions.

The aggregate shares owned on 9/30/12 was 32,002,500, compared to 48,856,802 shares owned for the period ending 6/30/12. The decrease in institutional ownership was 16,854,302 shares or -34.5%.

While there are still a few more days before the 13F deadline for the period ending 12/31/12 are due, based on the 39 funds that have filed so far, more than half have reduced or sold their remaining positions (e.g. 8 sold all, while 12 have reduced).

During this most recent period, Vanguard sold 1,717M shares, or half of their position.

Blackrock has not filed their 13F yet, but based on their 13D filing that showed ownership to be the same as earlier in 2012, it appears there will be no change made during the period ending 12/31/12.

    • Most institutions won't touch stocks below $5 a share. Maybe a 3:1 reverse split would help?

    • since money been pouring into funds to not see it already is kind of strange, i guess being burnt once sure don't help. my guess is if they get funding and can prove they will be funded for a year+ they will see some then.
