the ssd enterprise competition is incredible with most recently fio and stec having lost revenue. this is one of the first times i have seen ocz mentioned as a competitor in the enterprise space, mentioned with the big names such as sandisk and micron. ocz is about to make some serious noise in this market.
Intense competitive pressures from SanDisk Corporation (SNDK), Micron Technology Inc. (MU) and OCZ Technology Group (OCZ) are concerns.
Competition is intense. One advantage I think OCZ could exploit in this space is their direct channel. Both STEC and FIOS have enterprise sales reps. This is the only way to sell huge deals, but the sales cycle is long and very expensive. OCZ should target the departmental servers through their direct channel. This makes the technology accessible to any departmental IT guy with a company credit card. There are literally 100s of thousands of departmental SQLServer installations. Buying an OCZ accelerator board is way more cost effective than upgrading the server. They need to quantify the benefits (or get someone like Gartner too) and get the word out. The market is opportunity is tremendous. Anyone have a idea on the pricing of these boards?
