      Sentiment: Buy

    • analyst quotes from 2012 on OCZ buyout target
"Seagate has been late to address the flash storage market and needs to hedge its aging HDD business. Micron would also benefit from owning OCZ by selling more NAND flash." Benchmark Capital analyst Gary Mobley said.

“With continued rumors that OCZ is a likely takeout candidate, we believe having the founder of the company resign removes a significant hurdle in the completion of an acquisition,” Christian Schwab, an analyst at Craig-Hallum Capital Group Ltd., wrote in a note to clients.

"I'm hearing the same rumors ... I can only say that after the last quarter, when OCZ's cash situation became more challenging, they would be more willing to enter into a deal," FBN Securities analyst Shebly Seyrafi said.

Piper Jaffray Cos. says OCZ may be more willing to accept a deal and could attract Seagate Technology Plc (STX) or Micron Technology Inc. (MU) as they look to benefit from the growing flash-technology market.

“OCZ stands out as being extremely cheap on a valuation basis,” Karl Richter, senior fund manager for West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania-based AlphaOne Capital Partners LLC, which oversees more than $450 million, said in a telephone interview. “This is absolutely one of the highest unit growth areas in technology. M&A does make sense here.”

      Sentiment: Strong Buy

    • Just because you read a unfounded rumor on a blog, that suggested STX offered $1B, doesn't mean it was true.

The STX CFO clearly stated that they would only be interested in a SSD company that was profitable, which OCZ has never been.

      1. STX has since announced its 1200 enterprise SSD using an in house designed controller.

      2. For their highly rated 600 and 600 Pro SATA SSDs series, they chose to use Link A Media's LM87800 controller.

      3. STX also made a strategic equity investment in Virident, which not only includes marketing Virident's PCIe SSDs, but working together to develop additional enterprise-class solutions

    • STX wanted OCZ for $1bn last year based on financials that are being restated. now we have an outlook for $50-55m in revs past quarter and,or $73-78m in revs past quarter if you include the $23m in backlog.

lets assume the worst case point, not accounting for $23m in backlog, and not counting for any revenue growth(despite enterprise growing at 50%! confirmed by yesterdays news). we get total worst case revs at $200-$220m. taking into account number of outstanding shares, recent SSD market buyouts, i say OCZ is worth at least $5 per share today!

      Sentiment: Strong Buy
