    Facts as I see it

Fact 1. Basically no oil has touched any land yet , except a few remote areas of LA.

Fact 2. Three tar balls showed up in AL. -- Whoopie.

Fact 3. 250,000 gallons = approx the size of a high school swimming pool. Compare that to size of GOM and It seems like a pretty small amount

Fact 4. Coast Guard said next 48 hours looks good

Fact 5. Every expert in the world is working on this.

I think we are going to be ok on this.

    • where were you during all those years that tar balls littered Texas beaches--tar balls that came from Mexico--Nobody from outside the US Gulf coast cared or complained back then. Go invest in carbon credits and gore's new mansion.

Sure, we'll eventually be okay - probably.

Having said that, BP has screwed over America yet again. First a refinery explosion, and now this. You can spin the ecological impact however you want - talking about high school swimming pools might make it sound minimal, but the fact is nobody knows what the ultimate impact will be.

That aside, the REAL damage is that BP has set us back 10 years when it comes to offshore drilling - and yet again increased our dependence on foreign oil. Yet again, helped to increase our balance of trade deficits.

Maybe we'll wake up one day and realize that leaving our future in the hands of the likes of BP - just ain't smart. Smart alternatives are the only long-term solution. I know this will take decades to develop. The only silver lining is that this latest BP fiasco just might serve as a catalyst to at least get started.

    • must b the "borg"

    • I haven't watched too much tv as of late. Reading mostly. I recall an article (may 2 ish) that, if I remember correctly...there was an academic person (ie prof.) that est. 9 mil gallons, and revised to 12 in the same day.

Today from what I read...It seems less than five.

      ?

Also recall listening to cspan and NOAA stating they revised their estimates of oil leaking from 5k bars. up to ? Based on Sat. image, etc.

If my memory serves correctly, obviously there's a big difference b/t the two est.

We'll see what happens. Hope the latter est. is correct.

    • just noticed your post was deleted

    • Just to let you know I didn't vote for Obama..I'm a Canadian. however, I'm still just as interested and as concerned about your beaches and the GOM as you are. Spend a lot of vacation time in the US and Mexico..but, more importantly just want absolute assurance and confidence this isn't a 'big deal'...and I'm really sensing it's worse than 'they' are letting on.

    • Hey you voted for Obama ask him to tell you what is going on. The BP site provides a consistent look at how they are responding to the emergency.

    • I agree...any further evidence of the oil washing up on beaches and killing sea-critters will have a significant impact. I hope that doesn't happen, but really quite concerned at the same time. I just have a sense there is lot's of info that isn't being shared with us thru the typical news...and it makes me want to dig for more info.

    • I hope it gets resolved, luxor. With min. damage as possible, at this point in time.

I think if oil starts "washing up" on the beach...that would be a "game changer" for the worse. Just stating the obvious.
