Do you think Government has more motivation and knows more about stopping the leak than BP? They are on the hook for the cost, lawsuits, and publicity. They, being the shareholders, have already lost 25% of their entire investment--$50 billion. Not only that, BP was not even doing the drilling. The fault was with a defective part and that is life. Defective parts get into cars, pacemakers and oil rigs. This reminds us of Three Mile Island 25 years ago. Michael Douglas and Jane Fonda with gifts from many donors portrayed the nuclear industry as dangerous in China Syndrome. If we were reasoned at that time, instead of reactionary, like some of your guests, we would be sitting with a 70% nuclear country, no pollution, no global warming, and no oil spills.
Go to BP and buy some gas.
How are things in the pr department ?
have they got all the reasons it's not bp's fault in one pdf file, yet ?
got the maximum amounts written out to give all the republicans in congress ?
good, good. Now, if you can just buy off that pesky diane sawyer, you're all set !!
The fault was with defective decisions made by BP management, trying to save a few bucks ! But I do agree, the best ones to solve this problem are the BP people. They have the hands on experience and understand the problems better than the government bureaucrats. BP has engineers, equipment, drill ships, oil service vessels, robot operators etc already working for them, the government has bureaucrats working for them. If the government took this over the first thing they would have to do is commandeer BP equipment, and somehow figure out a way to "draft" BP engineers to start solving this thing. I say let BP take the lead on this as far as execution goes, government should be there in oversight capacity and to lend any logistical or other assistance.
They have so far paid each shrimp fishermen $25,000 without being asked for it and offered to pay the total cost of cleanup when only liable for $75MM. They hired others to drill the well ---where is the outrage over Transocean, the operator, and Cameron the blowout maker. This board is full of rumor mongering trend following shorts who will get burned on Wednesday.
BP has a long-established culture of caring only about the bottom line. Look how much they paid after the Texas City disaster and still people working there are dying over safety issues. Safety is just a word to BP. Profits, that has meaning.
