If you drill too much into the Earth's core, and relinquish too many of the minerals, oil, and such; then the Earth's plates begin to shift and collide. Once that happens you begin to see earthquakes and 'sink holes' in Guatamala and such. Very basic IMHO.
I own property in Southern Colorado and they have been pumping the gas and water out of the coal seams underground. There are wells as far as the eye can see. The number of earthquakes in the area jumped from 5 per year to over 1500 so there is definitely a correlation.
