Gov't going to rewrite the rules on gross negligence?

I don't see how they are going to be able to hold BP responsible by the facts as they have presented them. There is at least a good portion of blame on RIG according to the gov't so how can they hold BP liable for GN?

    • Gross negligence n. carelessness in reckless disregard for the safety or lives of others, which is so great it appears to be a conscious violation of other people's rights to safety. It is more than simple inadvertence, but it is just shy of being intentionally evil...

Capt Hazlewood was sleeping off a binge below deck leaving the mate in charge of the helm. Vidrine and Kaluza were working with the crews and calling head office for more help. Exxon was charged with negligence.

    • Nothing RIG did that can be appearing Grossly negligent let alone prove them in court. BP needs to make peace with RIG and focus their fight against Governemtn and not on 3 fronts like this

      • Except maybe for the nine years of service without one trip back to the shop, that the rig lacked the 390 maintenance items that would have taken 3000 hours to correct, and the lack of training provided by RIG; but let RIG go ahead and hide behind the indemnification skirt like a woosie. Oh, and let's not forget that a RIG official acknowledged in a 2009 document the driller often focused so much on ‘‘saving money in the short term’’ that it affected maintenance and safety issues.

    • G'ment is going after "Willfully Negligent", that's even worse than Gross.

      • G'ment was already willfully negligent so no need for them to waste their time. No you cannot have those world class skimming vessels, yes you can dump the worlds supply of dispersent in the sea, no you cannot stop us from flooding the ballast compartments of the rig and sending it to the sea floor. We are the G'ment are are here to help.
