    someone explain....

Why Carlino or PENN in general is to blame on the
AmTote settlement resulting in a 1.5MM charge? This was
an inherited contract that PENN wisely terminated to
save millions over the remaining term. The alternative
was to stay in a contract that would have cost PENN
much more than the 1.5MM charge.

    Tennessee was
a mistake, but hopefully management is no longer
    focused on racing assets alone.

    The 4Q numbers
also were impacted by the ramp up of expenses at CT
while the revenues only came in the last few weeks of
the year. It distorts the margin quite a
    bit.

It is one thing to bitch aboutthe stock price which
I am just as pissed off about. But it is quite
another to simply pass off onto carlino and cronies every
move that seems on its face to be bad for
    PENN.

Carlino broke this contract withAmTote wisely, just like
he bought out the GTech contract at CT.

FHBJR, unfortunately you do not understand that legally
it sometimes is very wise to break contracts, pay
the remedy (in this case 1.5MM) and move on for
future growth. The AutoTote contract PENN has now will
earn much more than the old AmTote deal, even with the
    1.5MM severence factored into it.

    • watching fall....Ihave been at CLPA making MUCH
      MONEY!!!!!

You and Finster are two of the stupidest slugs I have
      run into on the board......

      by the way.....I
did talk to Angie....Paul did really earn his
      keep....wink....wink.....you remember Angie at River.....LOL

      A piece of
filth is always a piece of filth no matter what his
      title.....so they say

    • racing PENN is bankrupt........management
realizes ultimately as do shareholders without horsemen
      this company can not operate!!!!

      You and
Finster have screwed people all the way down.

      AS
BORK REALIZED AT LADBROKE HE IS AT THE MERCY OF
      HORSEMEN BECAUSE THEY CONTROL THE
      SIGNAL....JACKASS!!!!!!

YOU HAVE BEEN WRONG AS HAS FINSTER ....PLEASE STOP
      THE BULLSHIT

    • Same guy I'd bet, but if not just another fool
(horseman) no doubt! NO ONE CARES about live racing at Penn
(or just about anywhere) very much any more; it only
exists to facilitate the comming of slots and gaming!
Why weren't you on the conference call. This is a
GAMING STOCK first and foremost. Racing is only a
secondary entity if best, and only a means to a much bigger
end. Sorry horseman, but you should be kissing
Carlino's butt and giving thanks every day that there's
even be any racing left at Penn now!

    • at home betting.....money losers...period

    • PENN really screwed up bring in Paul.....

    • i know this is not related to the
      penn, but i
      thought there may be
some readers who need to be
      aware of this:

      THE FDA HAS BANNED DOCTORS
      FROM
      PRESCRIBING VIAGRA TO LAWYERS(it seems
      it only makes them
      taller).

    • the handle for Wed and Sat was pretty
      poor,
slightly over 1MM each day. The small fields
      do effect
handle because once one goes below
      6 horses PNRC has
to cancel the triple for that
      race. The problem
is more severe than stated because State has let
PNRC separate same trainer entries which used to be
      coupled. I'm
sure the small fields don't help PNRC
      maintain
signal outlets or get into new ones either.

    • One day of horses to post numbers do not matter,
especially in these weather conditions. The handle number is
the number that matters Sure, the field can effect
the handle long term but this time of year the
weather has an erratic effect on entries and jockies. As
long as the bettor can still make it to the window
then that is the number that matters. Gross, Sunny? Do
you guys have a clue about these numbers or do you
      only understand $8, $8 1/4, $8 1/8?

    • decided to go to ct on saturday with a few
friends. you honestly could not move in the entire
building! if anyone else on this board was there last
night, please validate my claim. i mean it was totally
packed! i could not find a slot machine anywhere for
hours that did not have a person playing it.

      i
ate dinner in the dining room around 9 pm. we didn't
make reservations. i had the prime rib buffet. it was
pretty good except the prime rib was a little
overcooked. but it did have crab legs, not bad for
      $19.95.

for all the complaints about penn on this board, i
feel they are really doing something right at ct.
maybe it's a no-brainer with their location to dc, but
look at it this way, when penn gets slots in PA (it
will happen someday) they will have plenty of
experience in converting a track into a racino the right
      way.

    • below is a list of the
      number of horses going
      to
      post in penn nationals
      racing card on sat
      2/19:

      1st...7
      2nd...5
      3rd...5
      4th...5

      5th...5
      6th...3
      7th...7
      8th...6

      9th...7

hey, now there is a card that gets
      the fans
      and bettors really excited. an
      average of 5.55
      entries each race. pathetic,
      absolutely pathetic. all
      we need is another
strike and we will see an
      average of 3 entries
per race. wasn't this one of the
      "problems"
that the president of carlino fan club claimed
      his
friend bork was working on personally.
      wow! looks
like 'ole bork needs some help. perhaps he is just
      overwhelmed. after all,
according to the spin doctor he
      was working
      personally on every problem which
surfaced, and we all know that is A LOT of problems.
      why
don't they just shut the place down or sell it if they
aren't capable of putting on a decent live meet?
