You nailed it right on the head. Too many high priced techs pulling in 35 to 40 flat hrs a week. Anyone over 16.00$ an hour needs to at a minimum put in 40 hrs. If you are making 20.00 plus an hour why bust your ass for 50 flat. We
need a extensive training program that will encourage installers to become baseline mechanics at a more reasonable wage. They will be trained to do all the basics i.e. alignments tuneups and brake jobs at 7 to 5 $s less an hour as our overpaid techs. Then release the techs based on the lack of productivity. That will alow us to lower the hourly flat rate fee and reduce basic service prices at a very competitive level year round.
Also close all service departments at 6 in the evening which will give us more desk coverage and allow more mechanics to open in the morning. Not to mention also the ability to attract more outside help. And I also think it will reduce theft from escaping out the bays in the night. I guarantee it will not affect service sales in the long run because we will have the ability to work on more vehicles per hour as oppose to the way it is now.

Yes, I agree Mark Lee has a 25 watt bulb for a brain..........The other aspect that bears close inspection......entangling alliances, ala too many relations on the payroll. Unhealthy at any level in any organization.
Leads to corporate hemophelia. We must stop the bleeding........
